I was a maintainance crew chief on an MRN-12A mobile control tower from 10/67 to 9/68. Came to 5th MOB from 483rd GEEIA (Thailand). Had several TDY deployments to support Army and Marine Corps training, mostly to Egland AFB. We were also on standby for Korea (remember the Pueblo?). Good memories.

Was in the Tower/Radio shop and QC from 1982 - 1987 during the first tour and then returned to the 53rd CBCS QRP in 1994 thru 1998. I thoroughly enjoyed the first tour but the second wasn't as good as the first but overall a good experience. I retired in Dec of 2005 from Gunter Annex in Montgomery and then worked civil service for a while. Decided I just wanted to be reitred and am now enjoying the retired life.

I was with the 5th from Feb 78 to Jun 80. I worked with Kenny Payne on the 60's, Chirpsounder, and all the other wonderful equipment. The best TDY I remember is when we went to Goosebay for Reforger support. Tons of fun. Loved my time there, ha ha. Many friends and good times.

I was a 5CCG Mobster from Nov 78 - Jan 80 on Kenny Payne's crew! Of course, about half of that time I was TDY to some "god-for-saken" place! TSC-60V2 & V3, TSC-96 (predecessor to the 60s - yes it had tubes), KWM-2A, TRQ-35V Chirpsounder, BR-6027 Time Diversity Modem, and whatever else needed fixin"! Moved 'em with M715s, M880/885, M35, M51/52, and lucky me, even 5 to 15Ton (or was it 25T; don't remember, that was eons ago)commercial tractors with up to 40' trailers! Got blitzed at Gater Gardens more than once though! Remember EDIMGIAFAD! Carried that mobility attitude/mode thru six years in Panama (even though I was in the Comm Gp,we had a tactical control element), three years with the 606TCS in Germany, six years with the 507TACCS at Shaw (includes a year in the desert during ODS I, II, III and subsequent tasking to wherever to do whatever! You think that "407L" special experience identifier had anything to do with that? Now, I'm just retired, retired, and simply tired! Salute to our brothers(and sisters)-in-arms? Mike (then SSgt Pate)
